My white cat, Alice, who's sitting on my lap as I type this, has started peeing. This is not spraying but full-on inappropriate urination. I can't figure it out. I've got one of those automatic litter boxes, so it's always clean. Maybe my roommate moving back in last week has her freaked out a bit. Of done a bit of research online and environmental stress can be a trigger for this type of behavior. Either way, I'm going to have to take her to the vet when I get some money. If it's not one thing, then it's the other. Any ideas?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your urination problem…or rather that of your cat’s. Our old boy Zeke had a similar problem and it turned out to be a bladder cystitis. He would go all over and then developed crystals in his urine. Once we switched his food to one low in magnesium he was fine. Hopefully it turns out to be a simple fix. Enjoy your meat.

kell, alice may also have a bladder infection, so it is too painful to for her to hold. Call the vet that you normally go to. See if you can describe her symptoms over the phone (how often, is it when she is alone or all the time, is there blood in the unrine, etc) and they can prescribe without you having to go in. If they won’t do that, talk to them about paying the bill in installments. (usually that is not prob). hope she is okay.

So far, no blood in her urine, and she seems to make it to the box sometimes. My male cat had the bladder crystal thing a few years back— it was different because he was peeing just a tiny pit, every 15 minutes or so. They gave me a prescript for amyltryptaline (which is an anti-depressant in humans) for his bladder spasms and it cleared up soon after. That’s when I purchased the kitty water fountain I have. Since I get paid again Friday, hopefully the vet can just bill me.
