This past weekend on August 6th, Jakki and I officially tied the knot. While at Ohanapecosh campground at the base of Mt. Rainier, with many friends and family members present, we enacted a Celtic handfasting ceremony under the guidance of the Capt. and Rev. Gary Kelfner.

Here is how the blessed event happened:

The flower crew assembled bouquets and boutonnieres...

The wedding party was gathered...

Witnesses were in attendance...

Vows and rings were exchanged...

Hands were made fast...

A table was laid...

Glasses were charged in honor...

Much smooching was in effect...

And finally, groove thangs were shaken.

With just thirteen days from inception to fruition, this wedding was planned and executed with military efficiency thanks to Jakki, my mom, and many other people. Special thanks are in order to Jakki's aunt Sharon for flying Jakki's mom Joyce out for the event, and also to my aunt and uncle Linda & Bob, for their most gracious gift of a hired car to drive my grandmother Flo and Jakki's mother Joyce down from Seattle in their absence. The wedding would not have been as special without your generosity.

After the ceremony, we enjoyed cake and champagne followed by a tasty potluck. I cooked up twin batches of pressure-cooker chili which I'm sure put a strain on the local ecology. Jakki looked radiant in her simple wedding garb, and everyone mingled and chatted while the meals were prepared by the campers.

After eating, Jakki's mom and my grandmother returned to Seattle, and we were visited by two grumpy rangers who proceeded to tell us that we needed a "Special Use Permit" to have a wedding and that we needed to rent the amphitheater (which seats 300) to have it in. But a verbal warning only was given, and the rangers left. Everyone was in such good spirits that their presence did not mar the event, and if we do get a citation after the fact, it will make it into the wedding scrapbook.
